Earlier this month, Moncado Colony commemorates the 64th Anniversary of the Filipino Crusaders World Army (FCWA). Time flies so fast! It’s been a year now when I posted Some Highlights from Sudlon 2 Moncado Colony Fiesta – July 2010. And now I'm featuring again some of the highlights from Sudlon 2 Moncado Colony Fiesta – July 2011.

As always, the celebration was started through a parade. It was followed by some production numbers then a swimming contest.

Holy Week in Sudlon 2: Good Friday - Stations of the Cross

Good Friday commemorates the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Many Catholics/Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross.

In Sudlon (Sudlon 1, Sudlon 2 and its neighboring barangays), people observe a tradition of walking through the Stations of The Cross (or Way of the Cross; in Latin, Via Crucis) on Good Friday. It may be done at any time, but is most commonly done during the Season of Lent, especially on Good Friday and on Friday evenings during Lent. The object of the Stations is to help the faithful to make a spiritual pilgrimage of prayer, through meditating upon the chief scenes of Christ's sufferings and death.

Holy Week 2011

Holy Week as we all know is the week before Easter, starting on Palm Sunday. It commemorates the events of our Lord's last week before His death. Holy Week, together with Easter, is the most sacred part of the Christian calendar -- the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

We have our different ways of observing Holy Week. Aside from churches, the place where one would probably see the most number of people during Holy Week is the beach. While the Catholic Church understands that families are looking at the holidays as an opportunity to take a vacation and bond, the faithful, however, are not excused from performing their religious obligations. I think even if we are on vacation mode, we can still find time to go to church.

First Automated Election in the Philippines

Filipinos took part in the country’s first ever automated election on May 10, 2010, the second Monday of May as mandated by law. This brought about a new chapter in the country’s history. It’s a very significant milestone, given those long years of tedious manual election process that not only cast burden on our teachers and volunteers, but had also left doubtful and questionable election results.

The Commission of Election (COMELEC) utilized new technology to modernize the election process. With this, the COMELEC conducted numerous voters’ education campaigns and trainings to introduce the voting public to poll automation, particularly on the new voting process and on how the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine can count votes automatically. Voters do not have to write the names of candidates on ballots. Instead, they shade the egg-shaped circle beside each name of the candidate by using a special pen.
